Lanky, steely Dr. Leonard Carmichael's odd stepping stone to academic promotion is research in sensory psychology and physiology. Only 18 month's ago he left a professorship and the psychology laboratory at Brown University for the deanship of the arts and sciences faculty and a new laboratory, built especially for him, at the University of Rochester. A graduate of Tufts College and a Harvard Ph.D.. Dr. Carmichael had taught also at Princeton, Harvard and Clark University, but won renown for research, not teaching.
