Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Snowden announced in the House of Commons that the government would give $87,500 annually for the next five years, $25,000 this year, toward the new Covent Garden Opera Company already guaranteed by British Broadcasting Corp. to the extent of $150,000 (TIME, Nov. 24).
