Modified last week by the District of Columbia Supreme Court
was the 1920 consent decree which ordered Armour and Swift to
pack & sell meats only (TIME, Oct. 20). After a three months'
trial Justice Jennings Bailey decided that they could handle groceries,
fruits, vegetables and dairy products wholesale, but could not become
retail food merchants.
