Fortnight ago, Paymaster Edward Connaughton of Socony-Vacuum Transportation Co.'s tanker line committed suicide. "Tell Head," read the note he left, "he is the biggest crook in the world." Head, 50, of Brooklyn, paymaster of the company's barge line, confessed that over a period of 25 years he had stolen $300,000 by padding payrolls.
