At the first Catalina Open Tournament, an annual event worth $2,500 to the winners, the scores were phenomenally low. Walter Hagen's was 62-62-60-62246. Horton Smith, 20-year-old pro from Missouri, had 62-58-61-63245; one under Hagen and eleven under par. He got $500.
