The G. O. P.'s sloganeers eyed with interest the following quotation, reported or invented by Pundit Mark Sullivan of the New York Herald Tribune to describe the relation between Prosperity and Prohibition in the feelings of the midwest: " 'I don't like Prohibition, but I'm going to vote for Hoover because I'd rather eat than drink.' "
