A smell of fish, fowl, game, plants, men, sea water and crude oil steamed into Sydney, Nova Scotia, last week; took on a supply of fuel oil and at once left for Wiscasset, Me., its home port. It was the Bowdoin, Arctic exploration ship of Commander Donald B. MacMillan. His months of collecting showed that many specimens of plant and animal life existed farther north than scientists heretofore have realized. Commander MacMillan shut off from world news so long, was most eager to hear about trans-atlantic airplane flights.
