It is a well-known maxim in the publishing world that to suppress a book is to make it popular. It is much the same with a political speech. A fortnight ago, Senator Bruce, Maryland Democrat, made a speech in the Senate attacking the prospect of Government operation of Muscle Shoals because it would be an infringement of state rights, attacking the Democratic Party for cooperating with Republican insurgents in such a scheme (TIME, Jan. 12).
