Actors, like rock-'n'-roll singers, find something irresistible about a Southern accent. Those languid, drawling syllables just seem to make emotions sound bigger. That may be the least of the reasons why Tennessee Williams' plays have endured, but in the opening minutes of Showtime's new production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, it is the most obvious.
