Dorothy Day: 1897-1980

"Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." For 2,000 years Christians have wrestled un successfully with the import of Jesus' words to the Rich Young Ruler. For her part, Roman Catholic Activist Dorothy Day took the command literally. Over two generations, idealistic young Catholics came to work at her soup kitchens, helping the poor for a while and then departing for families and careers. Dorothy Day stayed on. And on.
