Died. Joao ("Jango") Goulart, 58, Brazil's last civilian President (1961-64); of a heart attack; in the Argentine province of Corrientes, where he lived in exile. A prosperous cattle rancher and lawyer, Goulart first gained prominence as Brazil's Labor Minister, a post he lost in 1954 after unsuccessfully promoting a 100% increase in the minimum wage.
