¶On the sidelines for only one day last July (during a game with the Pirates that was suspended before completion), Cardinal Stan Musial snapped his National League record of consecutive games played at 862. Benched once more after another month of steady play, Stan managed to boost his record to 895 by going in as a pinch runner in the playoff of the suspended game.

¶Gallup pollsters had sobering summer statistics: there are some 45 million Americans who cannot swim (about 31 million women).
