Cinema: Box Office

Last year 107 American movies grossed $1,000,000 or more each in the U.S. and Canada, according to the trade sheet Variety. Topping the list was Cinerama Holiday, and topping the studios was Warner Bros., with six hits out of the first 15 movies, five of them done by contracting outside talent. The year's favorites and their estimated takes:

1) Cinerama Holiday (Independent), $10 million

2) Mister Roberts (Warner), $8,500,000

3) Battle Cry (Warner), $8,000,000

4) 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Disney), $8,000,000

5) Not As a Stranger (Stanley Kramer; United Artists), $7,100,000

6) The Country Girl (Paramount), $6,900,000

7) The Lady and the Tramp (Disney), $6,500,000
