President Eisenhower ordered military manpower cuts last week that would emphasize air power and atomic weapons for U.S. defense.
The Army now has 1,343,000 men, the Navy 692,000, the Marines 222,000, the Air Force 961,000. In 18 months the Army will be cut to 1,000,000, the Navy to 650,000, the Marines to 190,000, and the Air Force will increase to 975,000 men. A total of 403,000 men will be dropped from the armed forces.
