Curiously, he went across the border to Canada to break the news that he was ready to run as the Democratic candidate for the presidency of the U.S. While at Kingston, Ont. to receive an honorary LL.D. from Queen's University, he held a press conference at which he was asked about his intentions.
In 1952 Stevenson made no flat, forthright answer until his acceptance speech at the Chicago convention, which had just given him the nomination. Last week he could have easily brushed aside...
