The British Foreign Office is ready to go surprisingly far to meet Egypt's "legitimate aspirations." London is prepared to withdraw the 50,000 British troops from the Suez Canal Zone. Condition: Egypt must participate in a Middle Eastern defense pact, jointly sponsored by the U.S., France, Turkey and Britain.
