Every housewife knows that synthetic detergents have cut into the market for old-style soaps made out of animal fats. Last week the Association of American Soap and Glycerine Producers revealed how big the inroads have been. In five years soap production has dropped nearly 40% — from 3.7 billion Ibs. a year to 2.3 billion Ibs. In the same period, detergent production rose 350% from 400 million lbs. to 1.8 billion.
