RETAIL TRADE: Out of the Basement

In Boston, frequent trips to Filene's bargain basement are almost as traditional as baked beans on Saturday night. Last week Wm. Filene's Sons Co. decided to improve on the tradition and bring the bargain basement to the customers. The store installed 14 custom-made coin vending machines in a new Greyhound bus terminal, to sell 20 different items ranging from a baby's rattle (75ยข) to men's & women's underwear ($1 to $1.65).
