MISSOURI: The Man Who Knew Harry

In return for his membership card and the L in his coat lapel, Robert Solomon Moore did a lot for Kansas City's bustling Lions' Club. When the club decided to present a desk set to President Truman last May, Moore said: "Well, I'm an old friend of Harry's and I'm going to Washington anyway. Why don't I give it to him in person?" The publicity he got was all any organization could ask for—a fine, clear picture of the President and Lion Moore, displayed in newspapers all over the country and in LIFE.
