The year's loudest political bombshell burst in the press like a pinwheel exploding in a chicken coop. Scrambling to get hold of the fast-breaking Henry Wallace story, U.S. newspapers galloped off in all directions. Readers were belabored with conflicting pro & con columns, editorials and news stories. They patted Wallace on the back for what he said, kicked him in the pants for saying it, and explored nearly every possible alternative reaction.
