National Affairs: The Weather

Pollster George Gallup moistened a finger and forecast unfavorable weather for the G.O.P. If a presidential election were held now, he reported, 51% of the nation's voters would mark the Democratic ticket. It was the first Democratic majority he had noted since last May.

Among the Republicans' possible presidential candidates, he found Tom Dewey still in the lead with 45%, down seven points since December. In second place, Harold Stassen with 18%; tied for third at 8%, Bob Taft and Arthur Vandenberg.
