Two Chicago Her aid-American reporters were idling in their city room last August, between editions. Reporter Charles Finston, 37 years old, was bellyaching because he had tried to get into the Marines and into the Navy, been turned down by both services because of color blindness. Said he in a moment of exasperation: "Betcha I could get into the Polish Army!" Retorted Reporter Willis O'Rourke: "Betcha couldn't!"

Upshot was that Finston, who has no Polish blood and speaks not a Polish word, wrote to the Polish Embassy at Washington, applied for a Polish Army...
