Religion: Ecumenical Gift

Last spring in Utrecht, Holland a constitution was drawn up for a projected World Council of Churches (TIME, May 23). Last week in Manhattan the U.S. backers of this movement met, learned that two U.S. churches, the Presbyterian and the Congregational-Christian, had voted to join the Council. Ten others approved in principle: the Northern Baptists, Reformed and Evangelical-Reformed Churches, two smaller Presbyterian bodies, two Lutheran groups, the Disciples of Christ, the Episcopal and Methodist Episcopal Churches.
