Between Columnists James Westbrook Pegler and Heywood Campbell Broun there had long existed a somewhat strained out-of-print friendship. In print, "Old Peg," ever scornful of anything that looks like uplift, called his friend "old Bleeding Heart Broun," "the fat Mahatma."
