Like a drowsy bear awakening from winter slumber, the U. S. building industry last March stirred & stretched in the first warm days of spring. Last week in Washington the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a greater-than-seasonal gain in building permits for April compared to March. In value, April permits were 65% above April last year. The value of residential permits, index of private recovery, had jumped 120%.
