Such rank weeds as the late Clyde Barrow and his cigar-smoking mistress Bonnie Parker (TIME, June 4) sprang from roots deeply embedded in the darkest social soil. Loudly has the Department of Justice proclaimed its purpose not only to cut down the weeds but also to dig up their roots.
