When citizens of Orangetown in New York's apple-growing Rockland County spied children from the town's Relief families playing catch with luscious California oranges last week, they indignantly questioned town Welfare Officer Clifford O. Poole. Republican Poole retorted that Federal Surplus Commodities Corp. (which has already spent $26,243,743 so far this year buying excess crops to help maintain market prices) had dumped 18,000 lb. of oranges for distribution to Orangetown's 221 Relief families in three weeks.
