National Affairs: Prophecy

Having already spent six and a half months in session, most of it marking time on the Supreme Court issue, Congress last week still had no more than a vague idea of when it would adjourn. Two years ago Representative John J. O'Connor, chairman of the House rules committee, predicted that Congress would adjourn August 26. It adjourned August 27. Last year he predicted it would adjourn June 21. It adjourned June 22. Last week he risked his prophet-reputation once again. His prediction for 1937: adjournment at 1:11 a.m., Sept. 16.
