rang through the Holy Land. Optimistically the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency thought that "Many of the Arab leaders now favor appointment of
a Jewish Mayor. . . . If a Jew is appointed Mayor of the city, he will be
the first Jewish head this ancient city has had since the time of the
Second Exile [70 A. D.]"
