Television: Nielsen's Newest

CBS thinks Barbra Streisand is "the major star to come on the horizon in the last five years." So last week, after an arduous courtship of her and an all-out battle with rival suitors, the network was happy to announce a ten-year marriage contract.

To make her television appearances exclusively theirs, the network gave Barbra $5,000,000 and the longest-working contract in television history. She can do as-little or as much as she likes, and she has that favorite clause —prized more in the concept than in the execution — giving her "artistic control."
