Science: Two Breakthroughs

The strides of U.S. science come as rapidly these days as those of a sprinter straining for the tape. But rare is the week when the U.S. can announce two momentous steps at the same time. Last week the U.S. advanced on two fronts. One was in the realm of pure, theoretical science, the exploration of matter; the other was in the practical field of rocketry and man's urge to fling himself far out into space.
