"We know that the U.S. population will increase to well over 200 million," said LIFE'S Publisher Andrew Heiskell last week, looking toward the 1960s. "We expect real income to rise 4% per annum, with the result that an additional 6,000,000 families will have incomes of $5,000 or over."
