A man's chances of dying of a heart attack if he lives in New York State are more than twice as high as those of a resident of New Mexico. The rates are abnormally high also in several other northeastern states and the District of Columbia. West of the Ohio, the only states equally lethal are California, Louisiana and Nevada.
