BOX OFFICE: For the Books

¶ U.S. movie attendance for the last week of July topped all records, as 82,300,000 people went to the flicks to cool off. A second record from the computers of Hollywood's Pollster Albert Sindlinger: 52,100,000 of the moviegoers were found at drive-ins, largest outdoor attendance ever.

¶ Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall, riding the crest of the boom, reported its own record, a two-week nonholiday gross of $404,056, for Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, well over the total of runner-up High Society.
