¶ Not until the 18th hole in the final round of the U.S. Golf Association's women's open did California's Mickey Wright, 23, admit to herself that she had a chance to win. Then she flubbed her approach shot and had to settle for a par. But she was still right where she had been all through the tournament—far in front.
