Stephens flagged an end to the 27-day steel strike one day last week, reporters were called into their negotiating room in Manhattan's Roosevelt Hotel to hear the news. Said McDonald: no "battle" had been involved in the on-and-off-again negotiations. "This has not been a class struggle. We are just partners who tried to arrive at an understanding."
