¶ After eating the dust of John Landy and Jim Bailey while those two Aussies ran better-than-four-minute miles last month, Ireland's Ron Delany developed a taste for speed himself. Carefully pacing himself on the fast track at Compton, Calif., the Villanova sophomore kicked past Denmark's Gunnar Nielsen in the stretch and clocked a neat 3:59 flat. He had it all timed so nicely that he pulled Nielsen past the four-minute barrier with him.
