Roman Catholic liturgy changes with the speed of a glacier—but change it does. This week a set of new regulations and recommendations from the Vatican in cluded these additions to the observance of Holy Week and Easter:

Outdoor processions on Palm Sunday; an evening Mass on Holy Thursday, commemorating the Last Supper; Holy Communion on Good Friday, for the first time in several centuries; a return to the old custom of extending Lent right up to midnight of Holy Saturday instead of ending it Holy Saturday at noon.
