As a crowd of 7,000 gathered near the banks of the Mississippi River in West Memphis, Ark. last week, ground was broken for the controversial $107 million Dixon-Yates power plant. Edgar H. Dixon and Eugene A. Yates, whose power companies (Middle South Utilities and Southern Company) will build the plant and sell its power to the Government, wielded gold-plated shovels to turn the first spades of earth.
