As it is in most Southern states, a Democratic nomination in Arkansas is tantamount to election. This week John L. McClellan, 58, the state's senior Senator (and ranking minority member of Joe McCarthy's Senate subcommittee), learned that he had a fight on his hands in trying to get his party's endorsement for a third term in Washington.
