The first of Hollywood's ex-Reds to come clean for the House Un-American Activities Committee's current probe was Larry (The Jolson Story) Parks (TIME, April 2).-Last week ex-Communist Parks got his answer from his employer. Columbia announced that his one-film-a-year contract was being terminated by "mutual agreement."

Both Columbia and Actor Parks were cautiously noncommittal about the whole affair. But three days later he got a helping hand from an unexpected source. After a short secret hearing in Hollywood, Committee Chairman John S. Wood went out of his way to praise Parks for his help to the committee, bluntly advised the movie industry...
