On opera opening nights, say San Franciscans, no woman looks another in the eye—glances glide from the neck down, comparing finery. As for the performers on the stage, they do not necessarily rate full attention either. But this season the excellent San Francisco Opera Company has three attractions that compel all eyes and ears.
