From India's census takers last week came a
progress report: the average Indian's life expectancy has gone up by
five years since 1941, by ten years since 1931. Present life
expectancy: about 32½ years for men (v. 66 for U.S. men), a little
under 32 for women (v. 71½ for U.S. women).
