Sir:

I have a perverse sectional pride in our Southern demagogues, and have championed them as being considerably above those of other regions in any fair rating of aptitudes for their work. It is with chagrin that I confess a growing conviction that Senator McCarthy—a damned-Yankee, and a Roman Catholic one at that—just about has it made as the Exalted Kleagle and Imperial Wizard of all the Demagogues.
