AUSTRALIA: Conservative Victory?

In an election of 123 new Representatives and 60 new Senators, 5,000,000 Australians turned out to vote last week. The contestants: Prime Minister Robert Gordon Menzies' Liberal-Country Party (i.e., Conservative) government, v. the Labor Party, which has systematically obstructed the government's banking and anti-Communist legislation. Result: in the House of Representatives, a slight reduction of the government's solid majority; in the Senate (count incomplete at week's end), a possible stalemate.
