THE ADMINISTRATION: Rooting Them Out

The State Department was still clearing homosexuals out of its woodwork. In 1950, said Deputy Under Secretary Carlisle Humelsine before the House Appropriations Committee, 54 cases were discovered within the department. Four more cases have been uncovered so far this year, and fifteen are still under study. Total number of homosexuals dismissed as bad security risks since 1947: 146 men and two women.
