HOUSING: Retreat

The old urban dream of a little place in the country, the New York Times found in a survey, has been replaced by a more urgent "nightmare of atom bombs falling on cities." The nightmare, encouraged by real-estate promoters and advertising copywriters, has increased sales of rural properties—estates, farms, stores and other small businesses 50 miles or more from big cities—by as much as 100%.
