In the space of 24 hours last week, Governor Thomas E. Dewey had two callers who set political tongues wagging. One was California's Governor Earl Warren. The other was Minnesota's ex-Governor Harold Stassen.

Had Dewey and Warren discussed the vice-presidential nomination? Said Dewey later: "It is harder to get [Warren] out of California than anything I know. That's what we talked about." Said Warren : "Tom and I are old friends. Tom is a fine fellow."
