AVIATION: First-Class Bargains

Impressed by the success of cut-rate fares, scheduled airlines last week announced a new batch of low fares on transcontinental and transatlantic runs. Among them:

¶ On all scheduled North Atlantic flights from January through March, there will be 15-day round-trip fares at only 10% more than the regular one-way fare. Thus, a New York-to-London winter round trip will cost but $385, v. a regular round-trip fare of $630.

¶ Starting Jan. 1, Pan American World Airways will make two round trips a week, and daily round trips' from June through September, from New York to Rome, to carry U.S. pilgrims...
