Cinema: Mid-Autumn Box Office

For seven days, folks who couldn't get to the World Series stayed close to the radio. Aside from that one week, movie business for the last month was good. According to Variety, these were grossing best—sometimes close to prewar levels:

1) Mother Wore Tights (20th Century-Fox)

2) The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (RKO Radio)

3) Welcome Stranger (Paramount)

4) Life With Father (Warner)

5) Down to Earth (Columbia) Another major grosser: the reissued

Gone With the Wind (M-G-M).
